I finally finished this piece... I did it for a contest and I was going a little nuts with it, and I am finally done.
I didnt really like the fat guy, but well... I also didnt want to keep on working with it... so... I am really happy this one is finished and that I can move on to the next one.
I love how this sketch came out... I will probably use it for an illustration later on... anyway I have been super focused on improving my skills... I wake up almost everyday at 5:00am and start sketching right away... of course it is always better when I get to hear Bobby Chiu in the computer... that dude is a great inspiration.
It has been a long, long time since I dont do an illustration especially for Monday Art day and Illustration Friday... so I did this sketch for this weeks topic which surprisingly fits both weekly topics

Plate design for contest
"Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others". Buddha
This is a plate design I made for the yearly contest "Tribute 21 design"
This year's topic is "happiness" and being in harmony with our surrounding.
My design was based on many different philosophies but mostly on Maslow's pyramid of needs.
Symbolism:
The bear with open mouth and eating bamboo represents our basic needs.
Bears kissing represent our need for relationships and love.
Birds flying represent our need for safety (peace).
3 different bears represent diversity and friendship.
Bear with light bulb represents our need for self awerness and creativity.
The world at the bottom represents nature as our home and the base of our existence. Following the green path towards the protection of our environment (black plants).
Birds flying out of the cage represent freedom.
Bears in lion and frog costume represent the opportunity of being who we want to be.
Anyway, I know the symbolism is a little too cliche, but I wanted everyone to understand the design... hope you like it.
Some of my characters and I
This is the first digital illustration I have ever made... I started it a couple weeks ago after buying a Wacom and I have to say that it took me quite some time to adjust to this new media.
This is a set of 5 illustrations done for a children's book.
The book is being made by a group of artists with the hope of making money to help sick children but more importantly, the aim of the book is to cheer and entertain them while they are at the hospital or at home.

This is a personal project I have been working on... The following sketches are part of a book I have been planning for the last couple of months.
A previous post with a Robot siting on top of a tree belongs to this same project.
The story is about a Robot who doesn't like to be just a Robot and decides to go out and search for his true call.
I will post the images in the order they were intended... note: they are just sketches and I haven't finish them all so just try to imagine where the story is going with the existent drawings.
This is an old illustration... I had it here before but the quality of the image was really bad so I am posting it again.
This is an illustration I made for my wife as a Christmas present, I drew her dancing on our bed with our two ferrets.
The one she is holding is called Man.bear.pig after the South Park character and the one holding her leg is called Maricica (a traditional Romanian name)
I haven't done a post in such a long time... I have been working in three different projects and many other small illustrations I did for birthday presents and I haven't had the time to post or even finish illustrations.
The illustration you can see right here is a final illustration for a book done by many artists and an author named "Skip" for sick children.
I TOTALLY HATED the final result of this illustration so I am working really hard to come up with a better, more artsy and not so plane idea on how to illustrate the story.
Here is a snippet of what the project is all about:

Anyway after I finished this Illustration I realized that this was not the way I wanted to go... so I have been working on more ideas and will probably do the illustrations in oil and not watercolor.
I wont be using most of these sketches... but it has been quite hard to find the perfect characters to go with the story... one of the greatest things about this project is that all artists have creative license so we can do what we want how we want it.
I really liked this character (the one with the mask, long neck and horse body) but I think it is way to creepy for the book so I am keeping it for one of the other 2 projects I am doing.
